At the end there was again a cheerful atmosphere at the Weser, the dreariness of the first 20 minutes was forgotten. The two goal scorers Max Kruse and Martin Harnik, who had put a brisk sole on the green parquet after their goals, ensured a good mood at the new Bavarian hunter number one Werder Bremen.

"We both come from the village, it's a folk dance. So we thought about doing it today", explained a happy Werder captain Max Kruse after the 3:1 (2:0) against Hertha BSC at Sky and Harnik agreed: "Max and I had a lot of thoughts to rejoice about. We come from the village and have chosen the simplest dance of the village festival".

After the deserved success against the previous table second from Berlin Werder is at least for one day the worst pursuer of the top rider Bayern Munich, which fired the euphoria with the green-whites additionally.

"We were present from minute one," said Kruse: "The first half was very respectable, in the second we started to swim, but we managed it over time".

Despite the announced mood boycott in the initial phase, the Hanseatic team remained unbeaten in the 15th home game under coach Florian Kohfeldt, beating the previous record set by  coach legend  Otto Rehhagel. The visitors cashed in their first defeat of the season, dropped back to third place and have been waiting twelve years for a victory in the Weserstadion.

A curious action introduced the Bremen lead in front of 39,100 spectators. Hertha defender Fabian Lustenberger knocked the ball out of his goalkeeper Rune Jarstein's hands during a rescue attempt, Harnik dusted it off (11.).

Seconds before the break whistle, Milos Veljkovic scored a header to the corner (45th). Javairo Dilrosun (53.) shortened the time for the Berliner, the midfielder did not let Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka look good with a shot into the short corner. Kruse took care of the final score with a penalty kick (66.).

In the first 45 minutes, the top players clearly dominated the game. For the first time with the ex-Dortmunder Nuri Sahin in the starting eleven, the Bremen players acted pressure-fully, convinced again and again by space-filling wing changes and could have obtained further goals. The Dutchman Davy Klaassen failed twice.

The team of coach Pal Dardai, who had nominated his son Palko for the opening formation, was not committed enough in the duels, and consequently the move to the goal was missing. It was only captain Vedad Ibisevic who occasionally showed his attacking qualities. Mr. Play Casino was just launched last year 2017.

After the change of sides and the follow-up Hertha found better into the match. The Bremen combination game lacked precision at times, the actions came more and more to a standstill.

Thomas Kraft, who stood in the second half for the apparently stricken Jarstein with the guests between the posts, hardly had to intervene. Kohfeldt reacted and replaced Sahin in the 61st minute by the defensively stronger Philipp Bargfrede, which paid off in the end.
